🧲 Youveim® NiMo Foam & Youveim® Hydrophilic NiMo Foam

High-Performance Nickel-Based Porous Alloy Electrodes for Alkaline Water Electrolysis

1. Product Overview

Youveim® NiMo Foam is a high-performance hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) electrode specifically designed for alkaline water electrolysis (ALK) systems.
It is fabricated using high-porosity nickel foam as a three-dimensional conductive scaffold, combined with a nickel–molybdenum (Ni–Mo) synergistic alloy active layer deposited via a continuous electrodeposition process.

This design delivers:

  • Large electrochemically active surface area

  • Abundant catalytic active sites

  • Excellent HER activity in alkaline media

  • Long-term operational stability

  • High reproducibility and scalability

Building on this foundation, Youveim® Hydrophilic NiMo Foam introduces an additional surface hydrophilization treatment, further improving electrolyte wettability, interfacial charge transfer, and gas–liquid mass transport—making it especially suitable for high current density and industrial-scale electrolysis applications.

Both products are engineered to bridge laboratory research and industrial deployment, supporting scalable hydrogen production.

2. Structural and Performance Features

1️⃣ High Porosity & 3D Interconnected Structure

  • Porosity ≥ 90%, PPI range: 50–130

  • Open-cell ratio ≥ 95%

  • Efficient electrolyte penetration and rapid gas release

The highly interconnected porous network ensures fast hydrogen bubble detachment and minimizes mass-transport limitations.

2️⃣ Ni–Mo Synergistic Catalysis

  • Ni sites facilitate water molecule dissociation (Volmer step)

  • Mo sites optimize H* adsorption/desorption

  • Alloying tailors surface electronic structure, lowering HER energy barriers

This synergistic effect enables significantly enhanced HER kinetics compared with pure nickel electrodes.

3️⃣ Continuous Electrodeposition Process

  • Uniform and strongly adhered NiMo active layer

  • Precisely controlled alloy composition

  • Excellent batch-to-batch consistency

  • Binder-free, no high-temperature hydrogen reduction required

The process is highly compatible with large-area manufacturing and industrial scaling.

4️⃣ Long-Term Electrochemical Stability

  • Low hydrogen evolution overpotential

  • Stable operation under high current densities

  • Minimal performance degradation during prolonged electrolysis

The robust integration of the NiMo layer with the nickel foam substrate ensures excellent mechanical and electrochemical durability.

5️⃣ Enhanced Hydrophilicity (Hydrophilic NiMo Foam)

Compared with standard NiMo foam, the hydrophilic version offers:

  • Faster electrolyte wetting

  • More uniform reaction interfaces

  • Reduced interfacial resistance

  • Improved stability under high current and dynamic operating conditions

This makes it particularly advantageous for industrial ALK electrolyzers.

5. Key Advantages Summary

  • High Activity: Rough porous surface and NiMo synergy provide abundant catalytic sites

  • High Stability: Strong bonding between NiMo layer and nickel foam ensures long service life

  • High Consistency: Continuous electrodeposition guarantees uniform structure and performance

  • Engineering-Ready: Customizable dimensions and scalable manufacturing support industrial deployment

Conclusion

Youveim® NiMo Foam and Youveim® Hydrophilic NiMo Foam together form a robust, high-performance electrode platform for alkaline water electrolysis hydrogen production.
While the standard NiMo foam is well suited for research and engineering validation, the hydrophilic version delivers enhanced interfacial performance and stability, making it the preferred choice for high-current-density and long-term industrial operation.
