Selection Guide

Small diameters such as Φ13–25 mm are suitable for low-volume samples. Φ47–60 mm filters are commonly used for routine laboratory filtration. Φ90 mm and larger sizes are recommended for high-volume or highly turbid samples. Sheets and rolls are suitable for industrial processing and custom cutting.

Instructions for Use

Place the filter flat on the support using clean forceps. Pre-wet with deionized water when required. Add the sample slowly and apply vacuum or pressure gradually. After filtration, collect the filtrate or remove the filter for drying, weighing, or further analysis.

Precautions

GF/A is intended for coarse filtration and prefiltration. It is not a sterilizing-grade membrane. For sterilizing filtration, use a suitable 0.22 μm microporous membrane.

FAQ

What is the retention rating of GF/A?
Approximately 1.6 μm nominal particle retention.

Can it be used for sterilizing filtration?
No. It is designed for coarse filtration and prefiltration.

What is the most common laboratory size?
Φ47 mm is commonly used for routine vacuum filtration.

Summary

Whatman GF/A is a fast-flow, high-capacity glass microfiber filter for water testing, air monitoring, gravimetric analysis, sample clarification, and membrane prefiltration.
