Whatman GF/D Extra-Thick High-Load Glass Microfiber Filter, 2.7 μm

Product Overview

Whatman GF/D is an extra-thick glass microfiber filter with a nominal particle retention rating of approximately 2.7 μm. Its high loading capacity, fast flow rate, and good resistance to clogging make it suitable for coarse filtration and prefiltration of highly turbid, high-solids, or viscous samples.

GF/D is commonly used as the first filtration layer before GF/C, 0.45 μm, or 0.22 μm membranes to reduce clogging and improve overall filtration efficiency.

Key Features

Selection Guide

Φ7–25 mm filters are suitable for small-volume samples. Φ47–70 mm sizes are commonly used for routine laboratory coarse filtration. Φ90 mm and larger formats are recommended for sludge, slurry, and large-volume high-turbidity samples. Sheet formats are suitable for industrial filtration and custom cutting.

Precautions

GF/D is intended for coarse filtration and first-stage prefiltration. It is not suitable as the final membrane for fine or sterilizing filtration. For finer particle removal, use GF/C, GF/F, 0.45 μm, or 0.22 μm membranes after GF/D.

Summary

Whatman GF/D is a practical extra-thick glass microfiber filter for rapid removal of large particles from high-turbidity and high-solids samples. It helps protect downstream membranes, reduce clogging, and improve filtration efficiency.
