Platinum Wire Electrode (Counter/ Auxiliary Electrode)

High-purity platinum wire electrode for electrochemical testing, three-electrode systems, electrolysis experiments, and research equipment.

Product Overview

The platinum wire electrode is primarily used as a counter or auxiliary electrode. It is made with Pt ≥ 99.99% high-purity platinum wire assembled into a PTFE or PEEK electrode shaft.

  • Pt005 platinum wire electrode: 0.5 mm wire diameter, 37 mm exposed length
  • Pt017 platinum wire electrode: 1.0 mm wire diameter, 37 mm exposed length
  • PTFE shaft: Φ6 × 25 mm or Φ6 × 80 mm; custom sizes available
  • Platinum wire purity: Pt ≥ 99.99%
  • Electrode shaft diameter and length can be customized to customer requirements

Shaft Material Options

PTFE (Polytetrafluoroethylene)

Resistant to acids, alkalis, aqua regia, and organic solvents. Non-toxic, highly insulating, and resistant to material adhesion.

PEEK (Polyether Ether Ketone)

Hard and strong, with excellent dimensional stability and temperature resistance. Use with caution in strongly acidic systems.

Recommended Choice

For general applications, the platinum wire electrode with a PTFE shaft is recommended.

Applications

Three-Electrode Systems

Used together with a working electrode and reference electrode.

Electrochemical Testing

Suitable for cyclic voltammetry, potentiostatic, and galvanostatic testing.

Electrolysis Experiments

Suitable for laboratory electrochemical cells and research equipment.

Use, Maintenance, and Precautions

  1. Before use, clean the platinum wire in chromic acid solution and rinse with deionized water.
  2. If the platinum wire is oily, clean it with acetone, followed by acid washing and distilled-water rinsing.
  3. If acid washing does not remove reaction residues, gently polish the platinum wire with fine sandpaper.
  4. Avoid bending, impact, or pulling the platinum wire during use.
  5. Clean the electrode promptly after the experiment and store it properly.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between Pt005 and Pt017?Pt005 has a 0.5 mm platinum wire diameter, while Pt017 has a 1.0 mm diameter. The choice depends on the experiment intensity and electrode dimensions.
How should I choose between PTFE and PEEK?PTFE is recommended for general use. PEEK may be selected when greater mechanical strength and temperature resistance are required, but it should be used cautiously in strongly acidic systems.
Can the electrode shaft length be customized?Yes. The shaft diameter and length can be customized according to the customer's equipment requirements.
Can the platinum wire electrode be reused?Yes, provided that the electrode structure is intact, the surface is clean, and the connection remains stable.
