Introduction

Poly(lactic acid) (PLA), also called polylactide, is a polyester made from lactic acid or lactide. PLA is studied as a biodegradable material and is commonly used in the development of polymer microspheres, particulate carriers and related material systems.

This product is supplied as a dispersion of micro- and nanospheres. The listed size options extend from 50nm to 500μm and include ranges of 20–30μm, 30–40μm, 50–60μm, 60–80μm and 80–100μm. Each size option is available in 5mL and 10mL packages to suit different experimental quantities.

Carboxyl or amino surface modification, drug-loading status and other functionalization requirements must be confirmed separately. The standard PLA dispersion names listed here do not imply that these treatments are included.

Use & Storage

  1. Check Product Information: Before use, check that the diameter, concentration, volume and batch details on the bottle meet your experimental requirements.
  2. Check Dispersion Condition: If sedimentation is observed, use an appropriate redispersion method following the batch recommendations. Validate sonication, vortexing and other treatment conditions for the particle condition.
  3. Take Samples as Needed: Sample after achieving a uniform dispersion. Use clean tools and promptly reseal the container to reduce contamination and solvent evaporation.
  4. Check System Compatibility First: Before adding other solvents or salts, or adjusting pH, test a small sample and observe any changes in particle morphology and dispersion condition.
  5. Follow the Storage Label: Follow the storage temperature on the actual bottle label and batch instructions. Avoid freezing.

FAQ

1. Are these products powders or dispersions?

This page lists PLA micro- and nanosphere dispersions, with package volumes stated in mL. PLA powder is a separate product form and should be selected from the corresponding powder product page.

2. Do the 5mL and 10mL variants have the same concentration?

Yes. All variants on this page have a stated concentration of 10mg/mL, with different package volumes. Tables are grouped by size, with separate retail prices in the 5mL and 10mL columns.

3. How does 20–30μm differ from a single nominal diameter?

20–30μm is a size-range specification and should not be interpreted as a single fixed diameter. For options with a single nominal diameter, refer to the batch test documentation for the actual size distribution.

4. Can the supernatant be used directly after sedimentation?

To sample at the stated concentration, first restore a uniform dispersion using an appropriate method. Sampling only the supernatant after sedimentation may give a particle content that differs from the stated concentration.

5. Are carboxyl or amino modifications included by default?

The listed variants do not specify these functionalization treatments. Confirm any requirements for specific surface groups, fluorescent labeling or other modifications before purchasing.

6. Does the microscopy image establish the actual size of every variant?

No. The image is a morphology reference without a scale bar or matching batch information. Determine actual particle size from the selected specification and test documentation.

7. What information is needed for a purchasing inquiry?

Provide the complete variant name, package volume, quantity and experimental application. Include any additional requirements for the medium, surface properties, particle size distribution or storage conditions.
