How Should PEEK HPLC Components Be Selected?

Selecting a fitting only by its appearance is not recommended. A more reliable approach is to identify tubing size, thread standard, sealing geometry and fluidic function.

An HPLC or laboratory fluidic system normally relies on several individual components working together. Even a relatively simple flow path may include PEEK capillary tubing, finger-tight fittings, ferrules, tees, adapters, plugs and valves. Therefore, two components with the same thread specification are not necessarily interchangeable when their sealing geometry, tubing diameter or mounting configuration is different.

This guide organizes the available products into seven principal groups: HPLC fittings and connectors, Luer and microfluidic components, fluid-control components, ferrules and sealing accessories, capillary tubing and sample loops, PEEK plastic fasteners, and engineering-plastic materials. This structure helps researchers identify the appropriate product family according to the actual system configuration.

Understanding Tubing, Thread & Sealing Specifications

Tubing diameter, thread standard and sealing geometry are among the most important factors when selecting PEEK chromatography fittings.

1/16" Approximately 1.6 mm OD. Frequently used with HPLC capillaries and 10-32UNF fitting systems.
1/8" Approximately 3.2 mm OD. Often paired with 1/4-28UNF flat-bottom interfaces.

Identify 10-32UNF, 1/4-28UNF, M6 or another required thread standard.

Confirm Tubing Dimensions

Record tubing OD, ID, required length and material such as PEEK, FEP or PTFE.

Confirm Sealing Geometry

Determine whether the connection uses a flat-bottom, cone-bottom or two-piece ferrule structure.

Check whether ferrules, plugs, valves, tees, tube cutters or adapters are also required.

For faster quotation and model confirmation: provide the instrument model, interface photo, thread specification, tubing OD / ID and required quantity. When the interface name is unknown, a clear photo of the actual connection can be especially helpful.

Not necessarily. In addition to the 1/16" tubing size, the instrument-side thread, male/female orientation and flat-bottom or cone-bottom sealing geometry should also be confirmed. Although 1/16" tubing is commonly paired with 10-32UNF, the actual instrument interface should always be verified.

They should not be treated as interchangeable interfaces. When the two sides use different standards, a suitable adapter is required. The sealing geometry and tubing size should also be confirmed.

A two-piece connection normally uses a separate fitting body and ferrule to compress and secure the tubing. The ferrule must therefore match the actual outer diameter of the tubing.

Luer adapters, chromatography-column adapters and PEEK sample loops are good starting points. The final fitting should then be selected according to the instrument-side interface, such as 10-32UNF or 1/4-28UNF.

Some capillary products use different colors to help distinguish tubing with different inner diameters, including red, yellow, blue, orange and green options. The specified OD and ID should still be used as the primary selection parameters.

Provide a clear photo of the instrument interface, thread dimensions, tubing dimensions and the intended connection. A suitable adapter or customized component can then be evaluated.
