The Fueiceel® Research-Grade Anion Exchange Membrane (AEM) Electrolyzer is specifically engineered for alkaline water electrolysis, CO₂ reduction, and electrochemical hydrogen production under laboratory and pilot-scale conditions. It supports a wide range of customizable active areas from 1 cm² to 900 cm², and is compatible with various electrode materials and MEA architectures—serving applications from fundamental research to scale-up validation.

🔹 Broad Electrode Compatibility: Works with FeCoNi, Raney Ni, PtRu/C, PtIrOx, NiFeOx, Ir Black, IrO₂, etc., using substrates like carbon paper, nickel fiber paper, titanium fiber paper, and nickel foam.
🔹 Robust Construction: Built with corrosion-resistant nickel flow plates, PTFE gaskets, O rings, stainless steel bolts, and precision serpentine flow field. Excellent sealing performance prevents gas-liquid crossover.
🔹 Lab-Friendly Design: Easy assembly/disassembly. Membrane electrodes can be replaced multiple times. Fully compatible with electrochemical stations, GC, DC power sources, and gas flow meters.

🧪 Working Principle

  • Cathode (HER or CO₂RR):

    • H₂O + 2e⁻ → H₂ + 2OH⁻ (Hydrogen generation)

    • CO₂ + H₂O + 2e⁻ → CO + 2OH⁻ (CO₂ reduction)

  • Anode (OER): 4OH⁻ → O₂ + 2H₂O + 4e⁻

  • Ion Migration: OH⁻ ions selectively migrate through the AEM, maintaining charge neutrality across the cell.


🛠️ Operating Instructions (Basic Flow)

  1. Assemble the electrolyzer with your chosen MEA and electrodes.

  2. Circulate 1 M KOH in the anode side and cathode side (no electrolyte in dry cathode mode)

  3. Initialize with low-voltage activation or constant current (~50 mA/cm²).

  4. Ramp up voltage to 2V to reach target current densities (up to 10 A/cm²).

  5. Analyze gases using GC or flow meters.

  6. Shutdown: Purge with N₂, flush with deionized water, seal for storage.


⚠️ Important Notes

  • ⚠️ Drying out electrodes reduces performance. Store hydrated.

  • ⚠️ H₂ gas is flammable — use ventilation.

  • ⚠️ Regularly inspect sealing components.

  • ⚠️ For first-time MEA use, activate at 50 mA/cm² or 1.7 V for hours.
